Terminator 2: Judgement Day was a formative movie for me. In 1991 it was the first R rated movie I ever saw. The summer before 5th grade my uncle took us to see it in the theatre on a beach trip. The special effects where like nothing I had ever seen before (yeah Adam that is true for everyone) and I had zero knowledge of the first film, which came out when I was 3.
Jump ahead to 2019 and Terminator: Dark Fate releases as a direct sequel to Judgement Day. My oldest son is the same age as I was when I saw T2. We watch the trailers, he gets excited and tells his mother it will be his first R movie, and I agree. Jump ahead to 2020 and we completely missed it. I don’t know if we got busy (probably) or the film came and went quietly (maybe), but we ended up watching it at home. After watching T2 and Dark Fate he correctly fell in love with T2.
That does not diminish Dark Fate however. It is a proper great follow up, that came out 28 years later. Correctly ignoring the two bad early 2000’s films that attempted to do the same. On a recent episode of The Connect, they decided the scene below is what you would show someone to entice them to see the rest of the film and I whole heartedly agree.
