More stress free living and working in the Municipal Corporation of Cape Charles. The second half of the week saw us settle in to #baylife, but not #cartlife. We are walking these mean streets of Mr. Charles P. Cape Esq. by dusk, while eschewing the local golf cart trade, and hunkering down and working during the day.
Day 4
Back to Cravings for another round of delicious lunch sand-o’s. It should be mentioned that the first meal was the most expensive lunch I have had in my life. Not because of the food, but because the lady at the register had on the Air Max 1 Have a Nike Day. A shoe my wife has had on her list for a while. While we ate lunch I picked her up a pair because I am a good husband.
The evening brought on another run. This time another 2 mile lap and a loop around Central Park to get to 3 miles total. Dinner was a walk down to Kelly's Gingernut Pub. A completely different feel from everything else in town. The menu is not eat on the water themed and the building is cool and old, but offers no views of the bay or sun. That said the burgers and fries were killer. Maybe the best meal yet. After dinner entertainment was of course catching the USWNT in the World Cup. Let’s go The Gals! Up The Gals? That can’t be right, can it? Tight game with the Netherlands.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel: Facts & Snacks
It spans 20 miles total, but the continuous bridge portion comes in at the 7th longest in the country at 15 miles.
Unsurprisingly some folks (my wife) have anxiety about crossing such a tall and long bridge. There is a scheduled drive over service offered for just that purpose.
There is a second tunnel underway and the boring machine doing the heavy lifting was named “Chessie” by a local 6th grade class.
Windy days can limit the speed limits on the bridge and very windy days can shut the bridge down completely. Rightfully so, as of 2021 sixteen vehicles have runoff the bridge, and some portion of those were wind related.
Day 5
Losing track of the days here has been easy and a little welcome frankly. But one way to keep up is Thursday is when the other half of the town opens up. We ran out of breakfast food we brought, just in time to wake up and walk to Coastal Baking Co. The line started before 8am, but the biscuits were worth the wait and chai was excellent. Cravings one last time for lunch because it was easy and delicious. On the way back we stopped at Peach Street Books and picked up drinks and a book for Crystal. After three days and 6 samichez, I’d rank them as follows:
Jefferson
Tazewell
Randolph
Monroe
Madison
Washington
After work and before dinner we went down the road to Kiptopeke State Park. I was hesitant to go for a light hike in the low 90 degree weather. But like always Crystal was right. The trails near the beach where shaded, cool, and offered amazing views. Dinner was our last Pokémon. We’d been to every spot in town except Ambrogia Caffé. Unfortunately they closed at 8pm so we missed out and went back to AJ's Bar & Grill. We had delicious meals and cocktails to wrap up our week.
